As a family we are immensely proud of you, what you achieved and your dedication to serving your country. May you and your fellow service men and women never be forgotten. F/Lt Noel Burton served with 106 Squadron Jan-June 1943 after being stationed at 30 OTU where he met LACW Barbara Davies, who opened the Dental Unit at RAF Hixon. He returned there as a Flying Instructor. They married in May 1944 and after the war, both returned to Rhodesia from where he had volunteered as a young man. We were proud to attend the unveiling with him, 10 years ago. We will remember them, his crew who he always remembered and all those brave persons serving in Bomber Command.

I’m so very proud of my dad who I think about and miss every day since he died nine years ago. He was a Bomber Command pilot and Pathfinder, who trained in Canada and served with two Squadrons, completing 102 missions. Still only 21 at the end of the War he flew for the Berlin Airlift. He continued flying (a job he loved, and racing cars he built himself) until he retired at the age of 58 and died with Alzheimer’s 31 years later.

To my dad, who survived being shot down and as a POW and lived to be 93. To the members of his crew who did not make it.

FI/Lt James David Mitchell, DFC, RCAF, 156, 627.

Dad served two tours on Pathfinder squadrons as Navigator: 156, 627, Wellingtons, Lancasters and Mosquitos. He left McGill U., 2nd year Engineering and following training, was commissioned and flying ops by August 1942. He did many trips with Lighton Verdon-Roe before this crew were lost when Dad was ill. He then taught navigation between tours, before moving to 627 and flew over 40 ops with Ronald Bartley DFC. They reunited in 1985. I'll never forget the respect and love in that handshake.

To Uncle Len and crew of Halifax HX312 shot down on 20/21 Jan 1944 and crashed in De Lutte, Holland. Len is buried along side four of his crew mates, Flt Sgts Johnston, Thompson, Morgan and Henman in de Lutte churchyard. Flt Sgts Dobson and Doust managed to bail out and were taken prisoners of war. The men served in RAAF 466 Squadron based at Leconfield. All so young. Lest we Forget

Our father who is in heaven John is his name. 10/11/1915 to 23/10/1997 A farmer's son joined R.A.F 1937 flew Blenhiem's and then Wellington's until 1943 when he was injured and was no longer able to fly combat, he was sent to Canada to help train new pilots. We will never understand the sacrifice that was made by everyone in defence of our nation. I can speak for my family and say that we are truly grateful and you all will never be forgotten 🙏

When I was very young I never realised the true Horrors of War? Maybe because I was born after the war and didn't fully understand back then like I do now. My late father told me about history of the RAF Crews and Bomber Command and 55 thousand man and women who were killed and service in RAF then it all came very clear to me with sadness and strong emotions when I saw The Avro Lancaster PA474 from RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight this is Aircraft that is living Memorial to have died RIP
